About the museum
The castle of Monesiglio was founded in 1221 by the Caldera family and later passed to the Del Carretto family. From 1736 it belonged to the Saluzzo di Valgrana family, and after many years as an old people’s home it has been owned by the parish of Sant’Andrea since 1945.
The complex has not been fully restored: the work has mainly addressed some structural problems, the tower roof, the sentry boxes and the large main hall, where the coats of arms of the families who owned it are shown.
In the parish house is the chapel of Sant’Andrea, decorated with frescoes by Antonino Ocello da Ceva signed in 1532, with Saints Peter, Paul, Apollonia, Christopher and Sebastian, and six Sibyls. The castle has been open to visitors for only a few years.
