Contemporary art centre in Foligno with exhibitions, the permanent collection of the Fondazione Carifol and Gino De Dominicis's work “Calamita Cosmica”.
Curated by Matteo Balduzzi, more than 130 photographs by 18 Italian and international authors from the MUNAF collections show how the idea of landscape has changed through aesthetic experiments between the late 1990s and the early 2000s.
About the museum
The Centro Italiano Arte Contemporanea (CIAC) opened in Foligno in 2009 on the initiative of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Foligno, with the collaboration of the Comune and the artistic direction of Italo Tomassoni. The first building, with a strongly contemporary character, stands in the historic centre between the medieval apse of the church of San Francesco and the Liberty-style buildings of Via del Campanile; it is a volume clad in Corten steel, designed with the contribution of Getulio Alviani.
In 2011 a second site was added: the 18th-century former church of the Santissima Trinità in Annunziata, converted into a permanent monographic museum devoted to Gino De Dominicis's monumental work “Calamita Cosmica”, accompanied by a documentary exhibition on the artist. In the upper apse there is an auditorium with over 80 seats for lectures and seminars.
Since 2019 the CIAC has also housed the Foundation's permanent collection of contemporary art, made up of 38 works by artists who have exhibited at the centre, displayed on the lower ground floor. Alongside the temporary exhibitions, the centre offers educational activities and guided tours.
