About the museum
The centre is housed in the chapel of the Madonna delle Rose, inside the church of the Madonna del Carmine in Castagneto Carducci. The chapel was the seat of the Confraternita del Carmine until the Leopoldine suppression of 1785; later the Milanta family bought it and in 1884 donated it to the Misericordia. The interior has a neo-Gothic character, the result of alterations made in the early 20th century.
The collection brings together liturgical furnishings, vestments and sacred objects that belonged to the Misericordia, the Della Gherardesca family and the churches of the area. The displayed objects rotate on the occasion of the triennial festivals in honour of the Santissimo Crocifisso, and the captions explain their liturgical use.
