About the museum
The museum opened in 1982 as part of the celebrations for the seventy-fifth anniversary of Giosuè Carducci's death, and was renewed in 2007 with the exhibition organised for the centenary. It is located in Castagneto Carducci, the village in the Pisan Maremma where the poet spent part of his childhood.
Display cases hold books and magazines with editions of Carducci's works and pictorial material, above all photographs of people and places connected with Carducci, and especially the drafts of poems linked to the local area. The panels trace the main moments of the poet's literary activity, closely tied to the scents, sounds and atmosphere of the Maremma, the setting of his youth.
It was in Castagneto and Bolgheri that Carducci spent part of his childhood, and the evocative power of that rural world recurs as a constant theme in his poetry. Since 1 January 2023, following a competitive tender, management has been entrusted to the Consorzio CO&SO of Florence.
