About the museum

The visitor centre is in the historic centre of Fontainemore, a few metres from regional road 44. It is an information point on the Riserva naturale del Mont Mars, on the village and on the regional network of protected areas; it does not mark the start of the reserve, which is reached from Pian Coumarial (1,460 m) along one of the trails.

The permanent exhibition presents the alpine animals of the reserve, such as marmots, mountain hares and chamois. A second display, with films and photographs, is dedicated to the pilgrimage of the Fontainemore community to the Oropa sanctuary, which dates back to the second half of the 16th century.

The information desk offers maps of the area with trails and points of interest, nature publications, and bookings for guided hikes, sometimes free of charge.
