About the museum
The small museum has been set up in the building that houses the cooperative “Il Riccio”, which is engaged in harvesting, selecting, drying and marketing chestnuts.
The collection displays tools and objects used mainly in the past to process the fruit, along with several local varieties. For centuries the chestnut was the staple food of families in the lower Lys Valley, so much so that it was also called “the bread of the poor”. The building contains a gra (the place where chestnuts are dried), reconstructed on the model of the old ones, and living spaces such as a kitchen and a bedroom.
In October the museum also offers the chance to follow the stages of harvesting and today's processing of the product with modern machinery.
