About the museum
The parish museum of Issime is located at the far end of the parish church of San Giacomo and opened in 1986. The church is already mentioned in a papal bull of 1184, which lists it among those dependent on the collegiate church of Sant’Orso; its facade was decorated between 1698 and 1700 with a Last Judgement.
The oldest objects date from the 15th century, including a wooden Saint James with very large hands, an example of Aosta Valley folk art. Other works document contacts with neighbouring regions and with northern Europe: a 15th-century Saint James from southern Germany or South Tyrol, 16th-century Tyrolean statues of Saint Lucy and of the Madonna of the Rosary, a 16th-century Saint Barbara in the Swabian style, and a Baroque Madonna from the chapel at Mühnes, in the Vallone di San Grato.
One section is devoted to silverware, including a notable embossed reliquary from 1675.
