About the museum
The Sezze archaeological museum is housed in the former town hall on Largo Bruno Buozzi and collects finds from the territory of ancient Setia, at the foot of the Lepini Mountains. The route begins with the prehistoric and protohistoric section: flint stone tools from the Palaeolithic, Neolithic objects in obsidian and greenstone that show long-distance contacts, and material from the Vittorio Vecchi cave, one of the most important Bronze Age funerary contexts in central Italy, with the remains of about forty individuals and their grave goods.
The Roman section is dedicated to Setia and its territory: terracottas and bronzes from various sanctuaries in the area, a numismatic and epigraphic collection, and material from Forum Appii, an important post station along the Via Appia. Part of the route also illustrates human evolution, with casts of skulls, stone tools and faunal remains.
In July 2025, restoration work began on the building, funded by PNRR (Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funds, starting with the roof and façades; the upper floors had been unusable for years.
