About the museum

The former church of San Sebastiano fuori le mura (outside the walls) was built shortly after 1479, with the authorisation of the bishop of Camerino and at the request of the envoys of the town, and dedicated to the saint invoked against the plague. It stands outside the walls along the Via Lauretana, the pilgrim route to Loreto, beside a small hospital for the poor documented from 1476 to 1888. It has a square plan, with a portal in Romanesque style and a small Renaissance doorway in sandstone; inside, fragments of frescoes survive, including a Crucifixion dated 1482, a Madonna of Loreto and a Saint Sebastian.

The church later served as an ossuary and ceased its original function at the beginning of the 2000s. After restoration, in December 2006 the Comune di Belforte del Chienti granted it to the international cultural association Terra dell'Arte, which opened the MIDAC, Museo Internazionale Dinamico di Arte Contemporanea (International Dynamic Museum of Contemporary Art) there. The museum hosts works by artists from many countries: painting, sculpture, photography, digital art and video art.
