About the museum
The museum is located in the former convent of the church of San Francesco in Serrapetrona, at the top of the village. The church was built by the Franciscan Conventual friars in the 14th century, on land bought in 1325, and took the title of San Francesco towards the end of the 15th century. In 1811 it became the parish church, after the 1799 earthquake had damaged the ancient archpriestal church of San Clemente. After the severe damage caused by the 1997 earthquake it was restored and reopened on 12 May 2002.
The museum displays about twenty sacred objects and liturgical furnishings made between the 16th and 18th centuries, which belonged to the former parish of San Clemente, including monstrances, chalices and crucifixes. In the church is also the polyptych by Lorenzo d’Alessandro da Sanseverino, commissioned by the friars between 1494 and 1496.
