About the museum
The Museo Civico di Caldarola was inaugurated in May 1996 after the renovation of the basement of the Palazzo dei Cardinali Pallotta. It owes its creation in particular to the collaboration of the painter Manuel Campus of Spoleto, the commitment of the art promoter Luigi Querin of Tolentino, a young partisan in Portogruaro, and the support of Eustacchio Montemurro, former head of the Cultural Heritage Service of the Marche Region.
The museum is devoted to contemporary art and has a dual character: on the one hand, a substantial core of retrospective works on the theme of the Resistance, already part of the institution’s collection; on the other, a part in progress, with current works that engage with the same subject despite the differences in time and intention.
The route includes the Pinacoteca della Resistenza, a section dedicated to the Caldarola Sistina and rooms for temporary exhibitions. The museum displays about two hundred works.
