About the museum
The Fàrie di Checo is an ancient blacksmith’s forge, with an attached mill, in Cercivento di Sotto. Its origins are documented as far back as 1426, and the workshop remained in operation from 1902 to 1966. It is one of the very few water-powered workshops still in existence in Carnia, and the best preserved.
Inside are the tools for working glowing iron, the leather-and-wood bellows, the power hammer, the millstone and the anvils, as well as a collection of hobnails, the workshop’s last production. The museum is part of the CarniaMusei network, created in 1998 to promote the museums of Carnia.
