About the museum
The MACA opened in June 2006, and the City of Acri dedicated it to the artist Silvio Vigliaturo, born in Acri in 1949, who lived in Chieri from a young age and is known as a master glassmaker. The museum occupies thirty rooms over four floors, covering about 3,000 square metres, within Palazzo Sanseverino Falcone.
The palace was built between 1707 and 1717 by Giuseppe Leopoldo Sanseverino as a summer residence, later becoming the family’s permanent home. Its interiors were decorated by the Neapolitan painter Donato Vitale and his workshop; the original frescoes are still preserved on the second floor.
The permanent collection is displayed in eleven rooms: 237 works donated by Vigliaturo to the city, documenting his research from 1961 to 2004, from his first drawings to his theatrical glass sculptures, including the large installation “Battaglia fuori dalle mura”. The collection also includes 66 graphic works by masters of twentieth-century Italian art, donated by the collector Germano Patrito. The other rooms host exhibitions, meetings and educational activities.
