About the museum
The museum is set up in the Franciscan convent complex of Sant'Umile in Bisignano, on the first floor, opposite the saint's cell. After a period of closure it has been reopened and reorganised with a new display, accompanying the gradual recovery of the monastic complex.
Among the objects most dear to the community are the relics of Sant'Umile and the large crucifix carved by Friar Umile da Petralia, placed in front of the cell. The museum also holds reliquaries of saints, ancient statues of Our Lady of Sorrows, of the Risen Christ and of Saint Peter of Alcantara, the Bambinello di Gerusalemme, monstrances, chalices, candelabra, sacred vestments and inscribed slabs.
In the corridor there is a large ancient lectern and numerous small paintings with episodes from the saint's life; ancient everyday objects used by the friars are also on display.
