About the museum
Bisignano has a long tradition of lutherie, whose roots go back to the 12th and 13th centuries and which grew stronger from the 18th century onwards up to the present day. The craft of musical instruments also includes the chitarra battente, an instrument typical of Calabria.
The museum is named after the brothers Nicola and Vincenzo De Bonis, luthiers known around the world, who died in 1978 and 2013 respectively. The municipal administration wanted it to honour their memory. The guitars and mandolins made by the two brothers and by the many pupils trained in their workshop are recognisable for their sweet sound, the result of their skill in choosing and combining fine woods and resins during construction.
The museum is located in Piazza Collina Castello, in the upper part of the village.
