About the museum
MUFANT was founded in Turin as the first Italian museum devoted to the fantastic and to science fiction, and it is run by the MUFANT Foundation. It was originally housed in a smaller site in the Lucento district, and then moved to larger, permanent premises in the Borgo Vittoria area, where it now occupies about a thousand square metres around Piazza Riccardo Valla.
The square and the museum's library are named after Riccardo Valla, a translator, writer and science-fiction publisher who died in 2013 and who supported the project. In 2026 the museum celebrated ten years of activity.
The permanent display holds thousands of objects and presents the fantastic genres through themed rooms: from proto-science fiction to pulp, from comics to Japanese animation, and on to science fiction on television and in cinema. The collection is complemented by the Biblioteca “Riccardo Valla”, with about 15,000 titles, donated book collections and a complete collection of fanzines.
