About the museum
The mill stands along the Roggia di Vivaro (irrigation canal) in the Magredi, the dry grassland plains at the foot of the Friulian Dolomites. Today it is known as “Mulin da la Miuta” in memory of its last miller. Tourist sources credit it with about seven centuries of history. For a time the canal also supplied a hydroelectric plant, which has been out of service since 1956, after the first section of the canal was closed.
The mill has been restored and keeps its machinery, which visitors can see in operation; children in particular can try grinding grain themselves. The site is part of the Lis Aganis ecomuseum of the Friulian Dolomites, in the unit “I Magredi di Vivaro”, and is run by the Vivaro municipality.
Nearby there is an observatory for the flora and fauna of the Magredi, which runs educational activities for adults and children, as well as flat paths suitable for cycling through the dry grassland landscape with rare habitats.
