About the museum
The MuSa has been open since 2013 in the historic seat of the Villani company, the oldest cured meat producer in Emilia-Romagna, in Castelnuovo Rangone. It was created to make known and pass on the art of making cured meats, and to tell the story not only of the family business, active since 1886 and now in its fifth generation, but also of a production district that shaped the economy of the area.
The route unfolds over three floors in ten stages: from spices and natural aromas to recipes, from the art of cutting and tying to the crafts of the boner, the salter, the stuffer and the curer, up to the history of the company, directly linked to the factory itself. Images, texts, videos and historic machinery punctuate the visit.
The visit, which is guided only, ends with a tasting of cured meats accompanied by a glass of Lambrusco on a covered terrace.
