About the museum
The Museo Civico Archeologico di Anzio opened in 2002 in the historic setting of Villa Adele. It houses the main material remains of ancient Anzio, from its origins to the period of its greatest splendour under the Empire.
The rooms display finds from the protohistoric necropolises and from the republican votive deposits, to which are added republican and imperial material recovered from public and private building complexes in the area. Of particular interest are the mosaics and frescoes of the Villa Imperiale, the so-called Villa di Nerone (Nero's villa), and the numerous sculptural and architectural finds that bear witness to the presence of a wealthy and refined patronage.
The museum is part of a system of city archaeological sites that includes the Teatro Romano, the Villa Imperiale, the Vallo Volsco, the Tomba Mulakia and the Cisternone. A free digital guide that can be consulted on your smartphone is available for visits.
