About the museum
The museum is housed in the 18th-century Villa Balladoro in Povegliano Veronese and brings together archaeological finds recovered in the village and in neighbouring municipalities. Its history is tied to the discoveries in the area: the first excavations date from 1876–1877 at the locality of Gambaloni, where a Middle Bronze Age necropolis came to light, with burials accompanied by swords, daggers and pins, now kept at the Museo Pigorini in Rome.
Shortly afterwards, groups of Late Iron Age tombs were identified at the localities of Campi Magri della Bora and Madonna dell’Uva Secca. These two prehistoric periods are the ones documented most extensively in the display cases, which occupy three rooms on the ground floor of the villa: for the Bronze Age the materials cover the entire chronological span, for the Iron Age the final period.
The display also includes Celtic materials and a Lombard tomb. The museum is open to the public with free admission on the first Sunday of every month and is run by the Associazione Balladoro, a voluntary cultural association based in the villa.
