About the museum
The museum was founded at the initiative of the Gruppo Alpini di Lugagnano, a hamlet of Sona, which wanted to create a place to bear witness to military history in the Alpine tradition, linked to the local history of crafts and trades. It is housed in the Baita Monte Baldo, the group's headquarters, and was opened in 2011.
The exhibition is arranged along two strands: military history, and the history of local trades and rural life. It tells the story of Alpine soldiers and national service, but also of the young men who left their communities for war and who had been blacksmiths, bricklayers, shoemakers, farmers, carpenters or teachers, with their tools, handicrafts and letters from the front.
The collection includes finds from the two world wars, such as uniforms, equipment and documents, objects related to national service (abolished in 2005), radio transmitters, historical documents, coins and banknotes, as well as a library. Since 2024 the museum has been recognised as a regional museum of Veneto.
