About the museum
The Abbey of Valvisciolo, in Sermoneta, is considered the oldest Gothic-Cistercian church in the Marittima and Campagna area; the Cistercian monks completed it around the middle of the 12th century. Sources differ on the origins of the site, which may have been inhabited around the year 1000 also by Greek Basilian monks.
The museum, established in 2003, comprises the Abate Stanislao White Gallery and the 13th-century Chapter House, used for temporary exhibitions. The gallery's collection of prints and drawings, from the 16th to the 19th century, derives largely from the donation of 41 works by the collector Guglielmo Guidi of Latina.
The museum also holds large canvases by Francesco Savonanzi, Tommaso Donini, Vincenzo Pasqualoni and Father Pasquale Minoccheri.
