About the museum
The museum is housed in part of the baronial castle of Oliveto Citra, a building probably of Lombard origin that was remodelled several times. Severely damaged by the Irpinia earthquake of 1980, the castle was subsequently consolidated and restored.
The display is arranged in the so-called Sala a Elle (L-shaped hall) and in the Chiostro dei Procuratori (Procurators’ cloister). It presents materials from the localities of Turni, Civita, Vazza and Iscadi in the territory of Oliveto Citra. The finds belong to the Oliveto-Cairano culture and span the period from the 8th to the 4th century BC.
The route documents in particular the Samnitisation of Campania in the second half of the 5th century BC, through some fifty tomb assemblages.
