About the museum
The National Archaeological Museum of Fratta Polesine opened on 21 February 2009 and is housed in the north barchessa of Villa Badoer, the Palladian villa of the Polesine. It depends on the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Veneto of the Ministry of Culture.
The display, arranged over two floors, presents the results of more than forty years of archaeological research in the middle Polesine, with particular attention to the settlement of Frattesina, a very active centre of European importance during the Final Bronze Age (12th–10th century BC).
The rooms dedicated to the settlement display objects of everyday life and of various craft activities, such as metalworking and the working of ivory, amber, glass, bone and horn. Of particular importance is the so-called “Tesoretto” (the little treasure), consisting of ivory combs, glass and amber beads and bronze ornaments. On the upper floor is a significant selection of grave goods from the cremation necropolises of Le Narde and Fondo Zanotto, attributable to the settlement of Frattesina.
