About the museum
The museum opened in 1964 to house the Pisani Collection, made up of finds from the protohistoric tombs of San Marzano sul Sarno. Over the years, material has been added from excavations carried out since 1957 by the Direzione dei Musei Provinciali (Provincial Museums Office) in the necropolises of the Pareti locality, in Nocera Superiore, not far from the Hellenistic-Roman theatre of Nuceria Alfaterna, as well as some finds from a civic collection in Angri.
The museum occupies a wing of the convent of Sant'Antonio, a 14th-century building in Nocera Inferiore. It is run by the Province of Salerno and forms part of the provincial museum network.
