About the museum
The gallery was founded in 1995 inside the convent of Sant'Antonio to preserve and showcase the works of art and the history of the basilica and the convent. The paintings, most of them on panel, were recovered in the convent thanks to the protective work of Father Guglielmo Salierno (1925–2002).
The rooms house works from the 16th century to the 2000s, including a 15th-century “Adorazione dei Magi”, two panels with Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Saint Lawrence attributed to Marco Cardisco, a triptych of the “Sposalizio mistico di Santa Caterina” (1519) by Andrea Sabatini, a Madonna and Child attributed to Severo Ierace (1541) and an altarpiece by Pietro Negroni.
According to Wikipedia, since 2022 most of the works have been moved to the Sala della Congiura of the Museo archeologico dell’agro nocerino, while the rest are still on display in the main hall and the corridor.
