MUDIF – Museo Didattico della Fotografia

About the museum

The MUDIF is the museum of the social promotion association Il Didrammo, whose registered office is in Nocera Inferiore and whose operating base is in Sarno, in the former San Domenico convent. Here are the historic photographic archive, the workshops and the museum, in three ground-floor rooms of about 70 m².

The archive holds some eighty thousand phototypes, from the mid-19th century to the present, documenting the civic, economic and industrial history of the Agro nocerino-sarnese and the social changes of the area. It also holds the collections of photographers, such as that of Francesco Jovane.

The museum was created with the Centro Mediterraneo di Storia e Cultura della Fotografia, the Soprintendenza Archivistica per la Campania (archive authority for Campania), the Comune di Nocera Inferiore and the Province of Salerno. Alongside the archive it houses a specialized library, workshops for restoration, digital photography and development and printing, and educational services.
