About the museum
The chapel of San Gaetano da Thiene was commissioned by the engineer Gaetano De Bartolomei and built between 1868 and 1876. It overlooks Piazza della Libertà, which after Italian unification became the symbol of Giulianova's economic, social and cultural vitality.
The building, originally the family chapel, is now part of the town's Polo Museale Civico. Inside are some marble works by Raffaello Pagliaccetti (Giulianova 1839 – 1900), among the most highly regarded sculptors of the last decades of the 19th century. Among them stands out the cenotaph in memory of Angelo Antonio Cosimo De Bartolomei, with personifications of History, Archaeology and Poetry.
