Exhibition marking the centenary of Cesco Magnolato's birth, with prints and paintings, spread across Palazzo Foscolo, Cà Lozzio Incontri and the Museo del Duomo: landscapes of the Lower Piave, freer works and sacred art.
About the museum
The archaeological museum of Oderzo dates back to the 19th century: in 1874 the publication of Gaetano Mantovani’s “Museo Opitergino” marked the beginning of the history of the city’s collections, established by the municipality in 1876 and opened to the public on 30 December 1881. After several moves, since 1 October 1999 the seat has been the Barchessa (porticoed outbuilding) of Palazzo Foscolo, restored between 1997 and 1998 with funding from the Veneto Region.
The display follows chronological order. On the first floor it starts with prehistoric materials and those of the early Iron Age, then moves on to the Venetic settlement, with votive bronzes, inscriptions in the Venetic language and a scale model of a house of the 3rd century BC. A large room reconstructs at full scale the amphora-based drainage used to reclaim wet ground between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD.
On the ground floor the Roman period is illustrated by altars, urns and funerary stelae, coins, architectural elements, fibulae and imperial-period bronzes. The route ends with the room of Late Antique polychrome mosaics, which belonged to the decoration of a single domus. Among the best-known pieces is the burial of a Venetic horse from the 5th century BC with its iron and bronze harness.
