About the museum
The museum is housed in Palazzo Ricchieri, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, in the centre of Pordenone. In 1949 Lucio Ernesto Ricchieri gave the palazzo to the city so that it could be turned into a cultural centre; after restorations made necessary by the condition of the building, an art museum that already held many works was opened there in 1972, and its holdings were destined to grow thanks to donations from collectors and artists.
After several years of closure for refurbishment works, the palazzo reopened in 1996 with a new layout of the exhibition rooms. Today it houses the most significant works of the civic collections: panel and canvas paintings, drawings, frescoes, wooden sculptures, furniture, goldsmith and ceramic objects, created from the Middle Ages to the present day.
The visit begins in the large entrance hall with its portico, once used by carriages, and continues up the broad stone staircase leading to the two upper floors, where the family lived. The staircase is painted with the Ricchieri coat of arms and portraits of some illustrious members of the family; on each floor there is a large reception room and smaller side rooms.
