About the museum
The museum is housed in the 17th-century Palazzo della Comunità of Ceneda and is devoted to the First World War, in particular to the final battle of 1918 that led to the end of the conflict. It was founded in 1938, when the veteran and collector Luigi Marson donated his collection of objects, documents, weapons and wartime testimonies, later enriched by donations and exchanges.
Between 2012 and 2014 the museum was restored and extended, with a more narrative and emotional display organised in three areas: “La vita in trincea” (Life in the Trenches) on the ground floor, “La vita durante l’occupazione” (Life during the Occupation) on the first floor, with the Armeria di casa Marson, and “Dalla battaglia al mito” (From Battle to Myth) on the second floor.
The collections include weapons and military equipment, field telephones, topographical maps, newspapers and posters of the opposing sides, photographs of the protagonists and the remains of a German aircraft in the Sala della Vittoria. In the deconsecrated little church of San Paoletto a multimedia workshop hosts educational activities.
