About the museum
The museum is dedicated to Albino Manca, a sculptor born in Tertenia in 1898 and one of the best-known artists of modern Sardinia. After his experience in the First World War he trained in Rome, where he received several public commissions. In 1938 he emigrated to New York, settling in Greenwich Village. There he established himself above all as a portraitist, animal sculptor and medallist.
His best-known work is the bronze eagle of the monument to those who died at sea in the Second World War, at Battery Park, inaugurated in 1963. In 1965 he also made the gold medal for Pope Paul VI's visit to New York. When he died in New York, he was buried in Tertenia.
The museum was created from the artist's bequest of his works to his home town. In the historic centre of Tertenia it holds bronzes, marbles, plasters, medals, paintings, goldwork and wax works, and offers a thematic route that traces the human and artistic story of Manca.
