About the museum
The museum is located on the first floor of the episcopal seminary of Lanusei, a building erected in the early years of the 20th century. Together with the diocesan library and historical archive, it forms the cultural hub of the diocese.
The Ogliastra diocese has very ancient origins: around the year 1000 the episcopal seat was in Suelli, in the Trexenta, and in later periods the offices were moved first to Tortolì and then to Lanusei. The exhibition tells this story through documents of the bishops who succeeded one another, paintings by Sardinian artists and liturgical objects from across the Ogliastra territory.
The collections are very varied. Alongside sacred art there are minerals, fossils and Nuragic, Punic and Roman finds, testimonies on the arrival of the Salesians in Lanusei, old Ogliastra newspapers, objects from the Fascist period and the Second World War, African art and Chinese porcelain.
