About the museum
The ethnographic museum occupies a restored old olive mill dating from the early 20th century, in the centre of Loceri, near the parish church. It illustrates the olive-growing and agro-pastoral tradition of a small village in the Ogliastra.
On the ground floor the working spaces are reconstructed, including “sa mola de s’olia”, the olive mill made of a circular granite basin and a vertical granite wheel, which was turned by a blindfolded horse or donkey. On display are tools for work in the fields and for the care of livestock, implements for preparing bread, cheese and wine, and objects of the carpenter, the blacksmith and the coppersmith.
On the upper floors the route reconstructs the domestic life of a farming family, with bedrooms, traditional men’s and women’s clothing for work and for festivities, and a children’s play corner.
