About the museum
The museum is run by the Archdiocese of Pescara-Penne and is housed in rooms adjoining the crypt of the cathedral of Penne, in Piazza Duomo. The core of the collections dates from the 1970s, while the present institution was formalised in 2001.
The route includes the entrance and courtyard, the crypt with its vault frescoed in the 14th and 15th centuries, the silver room, the picture gallery, the codex room and a small room of episcopal vestments. The collections include paintings from the late 13th to the 18th century, sculptures from the 12th to the 18th century, liturgical objects, manuscript codices and vestments.
Works mentioned include a Dead Christ attributed to the Master of Tivoli and an altarpiece with Saint John of 1617 by Samberlotti. After the 2017 earthquake, access to the rooms was limited by consolidation works.
