About the museum
The museum opened in 1991 on the second floor of Palazzo Forte, in the historic centre of Ariano Irpino. It holds evidence of the history and culture of the town, with particular emphasis on local ceramics, produced mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The collections include rare printed editions of the 15th and 16th centuries, from the libraries of the convents suppressed in the 19th century, donated to the municipality through Pasquale Stanislao Mancini. An important core is the donation of Emilia Dotoli, with Samnite terracottas of the 8th to 6th century BC, pottery from the southern Adriatic and Mediterranean of the 5th to 4th century BC, and votive and figured pieces from Magna Graecia.
The route is completed by a section on newspapers and journalism in Ariano and by the municipal historical archive of the town.
