The museum is housed in the former convent of Santa Lucia of the Poor Clares, in Ostra Vetere, and was set up at the request of the municipality and the parish of Santa Maria. It was opened on 26 January 2008.
The route illustrates the history of Montenovo, the ancient name of Ostra Vetere, and is part of the Polo museale Terra di Montenovo. The municipal library is in the same complex; in the church of Santa Lucia rests the body of the blessed Maria Crocifissa Satellico, to whom the museum is dedicated.
