About the museum
The room is a small museum set up in the former prison cells of the 18th-century Palazzo Municipale in Corinaldo. It is run by the Pozzo della Polenta association, which organises the historical re-enactment of the Contesa del Pozzo della Polenta every year.
Some of the ducal costumes are on display. They were sewn by hand by a group of volunteer seamstresses in a style inspired by the Renaissance. The district (rione) that won the palio the previous year commissions the costumes and chooses the couple who play the Dukes of Urbino; the costumes parade on the day of the festival and then enter the museum. They are a small part of the more than five hundred costumes made over time.
The route also includes some palio banners painted by local artists, tools for textile work, a replica of a wooden pillory and the model of the legendary Cannone di Fico. The display has been renewed.
