About the museum
The civic archaeological museum of Orte is housed in the former church of Sant’Antonio Abate and presents finds from excavations carried out in the area by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici dell’Etruria Meridionale (heritage authority for archaeology in southern Etruria).
The display follows a chronological order, with Etruscan, Roman and early medieval sections, and a thematic section that connects the history of Orte with nearby places of interest. Most of the inscriptions on display are funerary in character; text and illustrated panels guide visitors along the route.
