About the museum
The confraternity museum of Orte is set up in the large sacristy of the church of Santa Croce, a building that once housed a hospital. It displays the devotional objects of the town’s religious brotherhoods, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, which are still used every year in the procession of the Dead Christ on Good Friday.
The procession, of medieval origin, involves the confraternities of Orte, now united in a single body, and preserves a devotional tradition that the museum documents through the furnishings, banners and outfits of the individual brotherhoods. The works are accompanied by an automated guide system that explains their features and their use in the procession.
