About the museum
The Castelbellino civic museum opened in 1987 and is now housed in Villa Coppetti, a neoclassical building from the early 19th century that the municipality received by bequest. It holds numerous archaeological finds, mostly from the Roman period, many of which emerged during the restoration of Palazzo Berarducci at the end of the 1980s, including a decorative element of a temple that probably stood in the Mattonato district (contrada Mattonato).
One room is devoted to three 16th-century canvases from the altars of deconsecrated churches: “Crucifix with Saint Jerome and Other Saints” and “Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint Bernardino of Siena”, attributed to Ernst van Schayck, and the “Madonna del Rosario” by Benedetto Nucci.
The museum also has a section of contemporary prints, with 260 sheets and ink drawings by Italian and foreign artists donated by the association “Donazione Armando Ginesi”. More recently the collection has been enriched by donations from Annita Garibaldi Jallet, great-granddaughter of Giuseppe Garibaldi (photographs and testimonies on the Garibaldi and Canzio families), and from Anna Romiti-Mascellani (photographs and documents on Giuseppe and Anita Garibaldi).
