About the museum

The Museo d’arte sacra was established by the Comune of Longiano together with the Diocese of Cesena-Sarsina and opened on 18 March 1989. The collection grew out of the voluntary work of the municipality, the diocese, the parish and many citizens.

It is housed in the oratory of San Giuseppe Nuovo, a church that is still consecrated, facing Borgo Fausto, close to the bastions of the Castello Malatestiano.

The works document the religious life of Longiano and its territory, linked to three convents, several churches and popular devotion. Among the pieces on display are paintings from the former convent of the Girolamini, portraits of churchmen, a Black Madonna of uncertain date, sacred furnishings, vestments, relics and votive offerings.
