About the museum
MuBAQ was founded by the artist Lea Contestabile and draws on art professionals, including art historians, critics and graduates of the Accademia di Belle Arti (Academy of Fine Arts). It is conceived as a space for imagination and creativity, but also for discovery and reflection, with a proactive and interactive approach to art.
Activities include exhibitions, educational workshops, lectures, debates and screenings for children and young people aged 3 to 15, for parents and for teachers. They aim to develop observation, creativity and design skills through play and hands-on making. In the past, activities took place in the Bastione Est of the Castello Cinquecentesco (the 16th-century castle) in L'Aquila, in schools and in open spaces. The museum's headquarters are in Fossa, in a building with a large outdoor area full of artworks, surrounded by nature.
In 2025 the museum's friends and artists ran a fundraising campaign for the work needed to make the premises usable again and reopen them to the public.
