About the museum
The museum is run by the Villa San Francesco Community and is based on the idea that humanity, although divided among very different places and conditions, shares one single destiny: what happens in any country concerns everyone. The exhibitions tell stories and experiences from around the world so that visitors can learn from them.
The collection brings together over 700 symbols that recall personalities and events of historical and human significance, including a roof tile damaged in the bombing of Hiroshima, donated by the Museo della Pace. One section is devoted to miniature nativity scenes: more than 2,000 from 149 countries. An amphora holds over 700 waters from lakes, seas and rivers around the world.
Every year the museum offers thematic exhibitions, such as those dedicated to the Nativity, and has welcomed thousands of groups, mainly school and youth groups. An old wooden freight wagon recalls the deportations to the concentration camps.
