About the museum
The museum is located at Seravella, just outside the centre of Cesiomaggiore, in a 19th-century country villa once owned by the counts Avogadro degli Azzoni, at the foot of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park. It is the institution that collects and promotes the tangible and intangible heritage of rural life in the province of Belluno, and is supported by the Province of Belluno, the Comunità Montana Feltrina, the municipalities of Cesiomaggiore and Santa Giustina, the park and the Consorzio BIM Piave.
The permanent displays occupy the three floors of the villa and are arranged in sections on food, farm work on sloping land, winter life, seasonal movements and migration, and the relationship between people, plants and animals. Multimedia stations let visitors hear the voices and dialects of the Belluno valleys, along with fairy tales, legends and songs from the oral tradition.
The service buildings house temporary exhibitions, a specialised library, a lecture hall and the archives. Around the villa extend more than four hectares of meadows, woodland and fields, with a rose garden begun in 1997 using plants recovered locally.
