Museo Nuovo Cinema Paradiso

About the museum

The museum opened on 4 August 2023, to coincide with the opening of the fourth edition of the Paradiso Film Fest. It is housed in the former town hall of Palazzo Adriano, overlooking the square where Giuseppe Tornatore shot Nuovo Cinema Paradiso in 1988; the film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 1990. The façade was restored by the architects Lorenzo Ladduca and Rino Bertolone so as to recall the entrance of the cinema in the film. The initiative grew out of the commitment of Dariush Behjat and Matilde Polizzi.

On the ground floor a permanent exhibition brings together production stills from Cristaldi Film, props and memorabilia from the shoot, including Alfredo's bicycle, film cameras and the cinema seats, together with a scale model of the historic centre with the square from the film. On the first floor there is a multimedia area with an interactive whiteboard, also used for conferences and small concerts, the reconstructed projection booth and a rotating space devoted to the other films shot in the village.

The museum also has a small cinema room for film series, matinées and screenings of films shot in Palazzo Adriano, and hosts the local Film Commission. Every summer it is one of the venues of the Paradiso Film Fest.
