About the museum
The Museo del Molino Galleu is housed in the historic mill of the Galleu company, which began grinding wheat in 1922 with a palmento driven by a coal-fired engine. In 1984 a new mill was built, and the company kept the machinery and tools of the old plant, which became the basis of the museum.
The collection brings together the tools and machines of the millers of the past: a mola asinaria (a millstone turned by a donkey), a restored palmento that works again, and millstones from the Roman era.
The museum organises guided tours for schools, groups and families, in which history, culture and the craft of milling come together. Together with the Museo Civico Archeologico di Ozieri, it also offers exhibitions and events on grinding and the history of wheat in Sardinia.
