About the museum
The civic gallery is housed in the former power station of Ozieri, where Sardinia’s first electricity plant operated. The building was later used as a pasta factory and still retains some of its machinery, so that it is considered one of the most important examples of industrial archaeology on the island.
The gallery is run by the Assessorato alla cultura of the Comune and by the Istituzione San Michele. The arrangement of the collection was curated by Mario Lai and Michele Calaresu.
The route presents around seventy paintings and sculptures from the civic collection, many of them donated by Ozieri families such as the Marras, Tinu and Cocco. The rooms are named after Giuseppe Altana, Pietro Tinu and Professor Vincenzo Marras; other rooms house contemporary art, with internationally renowned artists such as Battaglia, Ceccobelli and Pizzi Cannella, alongside 19th-century painters from Sardinia, Tuscany and Umbria such as Somelli and Valori. The venue also hosts temporary exhibitions.
