About the museum
The Museo del Territorio was founded in 1986, out of a love for local traditions and the conviction that the history of everyday customs matters as much as great history. It is housed in the building of a former nursery school and holds about 6,000 items, coming not only from Longiano but from all over Romagna, almost all of them donated by hundreds of local residents.
The route over two floors is organised by trades – blacksmith, carpenter, bricklayer, farmer – and by women's work: domestic life, weaving, childcare. Exhibits include toys, kitchen utensils, an old table football game (calcio balilla) from a parish youth centre, barber's chairs, a 17th-century bellows from a blacksmith's workshop and all-wooden looms used in 18th-century homes. A collection of early 19th-century topographical maps stands out; one section is devoted to Vespas and Lambrettas, and a large area to work in the fields, with ploughs, seed drills, winemaking tools, and equipment for poultry rearing and beekeeping.
