About the museum
The museum is housed in Palazzo Bretagna, in the historic centre of Giuliano di Roma, and is dedicated to the study of volcanism and geology.
The choice of site is linked to the territory: the hill on which the town stands was the summit of an important eruptive centre, one of about twenty in the Valle Latina, whose volcanic vents are now inactive.
The display unfolds over three floors and includes an external hanging garden. Each room addresses a different theme of volcanism and geology, including tectonic hazards, and traces the geological history of Lazio, from the ancient tropical sea to the formation of the Apennines and the volcanic activity of the middle Valle Latina.
